WPC board designs
WPC stands for wood-plastic composite. A WPC board is made by mixing wood fibre or wood flour with a plastic such as PVC, polyethylene or polypropylene, plus additives, and pressing or extruding it into sheets. Compared with plywood, WPC does not swell with water in the same way, which is why it is popular in kitchens, bathrooms, balconies and other damp places in India. On this page you will see how WPC boards are used as decorative cut-out sheets: pattern designs, laser-cut jali and grill panels. Names and specifications differ between manufacturers, so always check the maker’s datasheet before you buy.
WPC sheet design
In India, WPC boards are usually sold as solid boards or foam boards. Foam boards are lighter and easier to cut, and solid boards are denser and hold screws better. Listings commonly show thicknesses from about 6 mm up to about 30 mm, but this varies by maker. For a decorative cut-out panel, a thicker board gives deeper, sturdier patterns, while a thin sheet suits fine detail. Have a look at some of the WPC sheet designs below.

WPC board cutting design

“WPC cutting design” means a pattern cut through a WPC sheet by a CNC router or a laser cutter. It is not a kitchen cutting board. The same plain board can become a floral jali, a geometric grill or a custom motif, depending on the drawing you give the workshop.
Laser or CNC? As a rule of thumb from fabricators, laser cutting suits fine detail in thinner sheets, while a CNC router handles thicker boards and deeper cuts. Ask your workshop which they use for your thickness and pattern, and ask to see a sample piece before they cut the full set.
The patterns below show typical cut-out designs: floral and vine patterns, geometric lattices, circles, leaves and trees. Most can be scaled to your panel size.

WPC board Jali design
A jali is a screen with a cut-out pattern that lets in air and light while keeping some privacy. WPC jali panels are used as room partitions, window and balcony screens, gate and door panels, and decorative wall panels. What matters when you choose one:
- Pattern size. Fine, thin bridges between cut-outs are weaker and can crack on handling or in strong wind. Ask for a pattern with wider connecting strips if the panel is large or outdoors.
- Board thickness and framing. Thicker boards and a proper frame hold their shape better than a thin sheet fixed at the corners only.
- Finish. Paint, laminate or veneer finishes are common. Ask which finish is rated for your location.
- Custom design. Most workshops will cut your own pattern, such as a name, a motif or a logo, from a drawing.

WPC board grill design
WPC grill boards are cut-out panels used for windows, balcony fronts, staircase sides and gates, indoors and in sheltered outdoor spots. For a location open to direct sun and rain, check with the supplier that the board and its finish are meant for outdoor use, because not every WPC board is. Fixing is usually done with screws or adhesive to a frame, so ask the workshop how the panel is mounted.
